Y2Y Volunteer Opportunities 2019

The Youth-to-Youth (Y2Y) is Youth Rising’s professional development program for people who intend to offer their skills and services to young people and in turn, benefit from learning and working with a professional organization. It is an opportunity to engage in youth service and prepare yourself for the world of work. The learning and experiences from the program open up numerous opportunities for the volunteers who go through this program.

As we scale up our efforts in 2019, we are currently seeking a new cohort of up to 29 Youth to Youth Volunteers to fill the following positions:

  • Financial Literacy Facilitators: Mukono (1), Kitende (1), Iganga (1)

  • Art, Craft & Weaving Facilitators: Mukono (1), Kitende (1), Iganga (1), Kampala (1)

  • Digital Literacy, Computer & Internet Applications Facilitators: Kitende (1), Iganga (1)

  • Fashion and Design Facilitators: Kampala (1), Mukono (1), Iganga (1), Kitende (1)

  • Early Childhood Literacy Coordinators: Mukono (2), Kitende (2)

  • Beauty and Cosmetology Facilitators: Kampala (1), Mukono (1), Kitende (1)

  • Sports, Athletic & MDD Coach: Mukono (1), Kitende (1)

  • Household Gardening, Agriculture and Nutrition: Mukono (1), Iganga (1), Kitende (1)

  • Electronics Repairs and Installations: Kampala (1), Mukono (1), Iganga(1)

  • Music & Radio Producer: Kampala (1)


  • No specific degree, age or certification is required. Fresh graduates from technical vocational institutions, and different tertiary institutions of learning are encouraged to apply.

  • The most important things are skills and experience: The applicant MUST possess relevant knowledge, skills, and abilities pertaining to the program area.

  • Must be willing to learn on the job the principles of business and entrepreneurship, organizational systems and processes, as well as, strategic program and project management.

  • Must enjoy working in teams, but have the ability to work independently in a start-up environment.

  • Must be open-minded, face challenges constructively, and remain open to feedback.

  • Strong desire to work with individuals of all ages, but most specifically those aged 15-25.

  • Recommended, but not required: Residing in and around the area where the opportunity has been advertised


  • Orientation training regarding the organization’s policies, procedures, and programs.

  • On-going observational and evaluative support from peers and supervisors.

  • General professional development training offered both at the midway and end points of each term.

  • At the discretion of the organization, specific skill-based training may be sought out and provided.

Time Commitment:

  • A minimum of 20 working hours per week at Youth Rising Center where you are placed, typically spread over the course of 3 or more business days.

  • Occasionally attend events in addition to or outside of your typical volunteer schedule, including, but not limited to, Open Houses, Community Outreaches, Partner Engagements, and Graduations.

Length of Commitment:

12 months is required from January-December 2019.

Workplace Specifics

Contacts/Key Relationships

  • The Facilitators report directly to the Regional Team Leaders of their centers of placement internally and the Country Director.

  • Apart from the direct reports, the Facilitators will work closely with the Administrative Associate.

Supervisory Responsibility

The Facilitators has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment.

Stipend & Benefits

This opportunity will start at a stipend level range of UGX 50,000 – 100,000 a month with an opportunity to turn into a salaried with benefits position after fulfillment of a one year contract and the candidate’s demonstration of growth in the position.
